Everyone that’s moving has at least one if not many. What I mean by VIB is not the box containing for most precious items. It’s the box that has your bed linens, or the box that has the coffee maker. Maybe for you it’s the box with bathroom essentials in it. May not sound important but when its 8 o’clock in the evening and the movers are just finishing up. You need to make the beds for the kids but you have to go through each box in each of your 3 bedrooms to find all the stuff, then you will know what I mean.
Below are some tips to make organizing and then finding that Very Important Box easier once the movers are done.
First and foremost, think ahead. What are the things you will need to have access to immediately? Once you have that figured out place them into a box and mark the box as an “open first” box. For each room that you consider an actual living space you should have one “open first box i.e. bathroom OF, kids room OF.
Make that box easily visible. Have the kids draw on it, put a bunch of asterisks on it, highlight it, whatever you can think of to make it easy to find. Kitchens for instance can have over 30 boxes, so marking that box is key.
Another idea is to have all the VIB/OF boxes delivered by the mover to a central area. For instance a room that may not have a lot of goods going into it. Such as a sunroom, or a spare bedroom or study area. Mark the boxes with a large colored sticker and let the movers know to place those specific boxes into that central area.
Our customers have also come up with some ingenious ideas, for instance; take 2 wardrobe boxes and fill one with all the pillows and the other with all the sheets and blankets from the bedrooms.
Whether you use one of the ideas we’ve shared or your own, it is very important that you make the job of finding those key items easier on yourself. Especially after a long sometimes stressful day of moving.
