What to Bring During a Long-Distance Move

With all of the planning out of the way and now that we’ve loaded all of your belongings, it’s time to take yourselves to the new location too! At Hammer’s Moving & Storage, the top residential movers of Montgomery County, PA for the last 70-plus years, we recommend that you bring the following things with you on a long-distance move:

Food and Water. These human essentials while always vital, are just as important when traveling long distances. To avoid having to stop too many times, bring snacks, water bottles or whatever beverage you like. For extremely long trips, you can even pack a smaller cooler with sandwiches and fruit.

Smartphone. This one goes without saying in this day and age as few of us ever go anywhere without it. Use it to stay connected to your movers or anyone else making the trek with you in different vehicles. If they are taking your belongings to a storage facility, make sure to contact them before they leave and ask what boxes they dropped off.

If your phone doesn’t have one, or you plan on using your phone for other purposes, be sure to bring a GPS navigation system, especially if you plan on trekking through territory unfamiliar to you.

You can also use your phone (or tablet) to read, access social media, play games, as well as stream music and movies, among many other things to keep busy. More on that…

Things to keep everyone busy. If you have kids, make sure they have stuff to play with in the car. It could be crayons and a coloring book, their favorite stuffed animal or action figure or a handheld gaming device or tablet. Adults should bring music, books or tablets to keep busy. If you have an automobile with built-in monitors, this is a great time to take advantage by bringing a movie or two for the whole family to watch. If you are traveling far distances, try to switch off driving and avoid fatigue by taking breaks along the way.

Extra Cash. For those of us that often use their credit/debit cards or even our smartphones to make purchases, we recommend that you bring extra cash just in case. Depending on where you stop to rest, they might not have an ATM or you’ll have to pay a hefty surcharge.

Most of all, the best thing you can do is call the expert residential movers of Bucks County, PA, Hammer’s Moving & Storage.
